ACTION ALERT: $2 Billion for Cash for Clunkers

Human Events
Senate May Authorize $2 Billion
for Cash for Clunkers

Should Congress waste $2 billion
on an unproven program?

Dear Glen,

Take Action!
The Senate will vote today on whether to pour an additional $2 billion into the 'Cash for Clunkers' program, where you trade in your old car and receive up to $4500 in rebates for the purchase of a more 'green friendly' model. The program has almost exceeded its initial $1 billion funding, and President Obama predicted it will go broke Friday without Congressional action

A recent AP report says, however, that most buyers are not purchasing American cars with the program. Four of the top five new vehicles purchased under the program are foreign, with only four American cars making the top 10. The Obama administration claims many of these foreign models are still being manufactured in the U.S. but has yet to release data that verifies this claim.

It doesn't make sense to triple a program's funding when you're not sure how well it works. Contact your senators today and ask that they vote against H.R. 3435. Americans don't want Congress wasting $2 billion on a program that may not benefit U.S. manufacturers.
